Accompany at Masses as needed
Primary Instrument-Piano (could include organ)
Rehearsals are typically Monday or Wednesday evenings during the week and before Mass
Mass times are Saturday at 5:00 PM and Sunday at 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 5:00 PM, and *8:00 PM (*when MU is in session)
Opportunity to accompany for special services as well (Christmas, Easter, Holy Days)
Committed Christian (Roman Catholic preferred)
Organized and prepared for rehearsal/Mass
A team player who is collaborative and and a strong sense of shared ministry
Virtus training (standardized procedures/policies for appropriate interaction with children; training is provided.)
Ability to play written piano accompaniments for liturgical music including songs/hymns/choral pieces, in traditional and contemporary styles in an ensemble setting. (Music lists and copies of music will be provided at least a week before rehearsal)
Ability to play choral parts from the choir score for rehearsal purposes
Ability to improvise an accompaniment from “lead sheets” with chord markings
Improvisation/enhancement of written accompaniments (i.e. making a “standard hymn” accompaniment pianistic)
Live interview/audition with the Director of Music & Liturgy
Organ ability and/or willingness to develop
Ability and willingness to run a sectional rehearsal during normal rehearsal time.
A minimum of two weeks notification will be given to the Director of Music & Liturgy for a planned absence so that a substitute may be secured in a timely manner. The expectation is that the accompanist is consistent, and thus repeated use of substitutes is a consideration for termination. In case of a medical emergency notice should be given to the Director of Music & Liturgy as soon as possible.
Holy Days, Christmas Masses, Easter Triduum services and concerts are considered separately since the schedule is different from a typical Sunday and additional rehearsal is normally necessary.
Stipend is $50 per week including both weekly rehearsal and Mass
Payment is made bi-monthly
Supervisor is Director of Music & Liturgy
Evaluation will be conducted toward the end of each semester
This agreement may be terminated with two weeks written notice by the Director of Music & Liturgy after consultation with the Pastor or with two weeks notice by mutual agreement between the Accompanist and Director of Music & Liturgy
